Thought I'd share some info on another project I've been working on. Definitely one of the more interesting gigs I've had, this has helped me stretch the boundaries of my composition, performance and computeryness. I'm speaking, of course, about the newly published book by Martha Freeman, entitled The Case of the Rock 'n' Roll Dog. It's the first installment of a new series of children's literature called The First Kids Mysteries, chronicling the lives of two kids that happen to be presidential offspring. Martha approached me in the Spring of 2010 to write songs for the book using her lyrics, and have lead sheets of the tunes ready for publication in the book. I penned two: Read a Book! and Rock 'n' Roll Dog. Writing the tunes themselves provided some interesting opportunities and challenges, and my subsequent audio recording of the latter allowed me to hone some of my home studio chops.
So, at long last, the fruits of our labor are upon us. Check out the book for sale now at Amazon, and be serenaded by the recording of "Rock 'n' Roll Dog".
Many thanks to the rhythm section known only as The Smoove Blend for providing some extra help on the record.
Hope you enjoy!
